An Unusual Place & Position (JESUS Center Stage, PT 2)

Jesus Center Stage

Today we continue the series “Jesus Center Stage” and the Story of the Upside Tree.

Recall from last week – this mammoth tree was plucked from the ground and shaken violently – clear of all rocks and debris and replanted it. But not in the usual way. The tree was transplanted in an unusual place and an unusual position. Why?

The tree had to be shaken – to be uprooted from it’s comfortable position. The shaking leads to waking. An awakening of purpose. God had other works in mind.

John 15:2 (NLT)

“He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.”

The purpose of the pruning is to bear more fruit.

God is looking for fruit. In the case of the tree, years of debris had accumulated. Things had grown too comfortable. God had another work in mind. Sometimes He says enough. He loves us too much to leave us where we are. And He loves OTHERS enough to shake us out of our comfort zone.

Sometimes I wonder if the shaking is God nudging us out of the boat so we can walk on water. After the shaking the tree gets planted in an unusual place – in an unusual position. God is God – He can do what He wants. But His plans are not random. They are very intentional.
