Encourage One Another (Randy Lynch, 9/20/2020 NOTES)
Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.
2 Timothy 4:2 (NLT)
The word “patiently” is the Greek word “makrothumia” (mak-roth-oo-mee’-ah) which means longsuffering and slow in avenging wrongs.
“so proclaim the Message with intensity; keep on your watch. Challenge, warn, and urge your people. Don’t ever quit. Just keep it simple.”
2 Timothy 4:2 (Message Translation)
When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gadarenes, two men who were possessed by demons met him. They came out of the tombs and were so violent that no one could go through that area.
Matthew 8:28 (NLT)
When Jesus was still some distance away, the man saw him, ran to meet him, and bowed low before him.
7 With a shriek, he screamed, “Why are you interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In the name of God, I beg you, don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had already said to the spirit, “Come out of the man, you evil spirit.” 9 Then Jesus demanded, “What is your name?” And he replied, “My name is Legion, because there are many of us inside this man.”
Mark 5:6-9 (NLT)
Roman Legion
This is an illustration of a First Century Roman Legion. The Roman Army was comprised of approximately 60 Legions with approximately 6000 soldiers per legion and 10 cohorts per legion.
You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.
2 Timothy 3:1 (NLT)
“enistemi” (en-is’-tay-mee) is a compound word. En means in and histemi to stand.
Malachi 1:1 – God chose Malachi to deliver a prophecy to the people of Israel.
Vs 6-7 – God said they were evil people that showed contempt and disrespect.
Vs 8-9 – The Priests were sacrificing diseased, blind and crippled animals as their best sacrifice on His altar. God said; “try giving your best gifts like that to your governor and see how he likes it; you are cheats and cursed.”
Vs 10 – God said; “How I wish you would shut the temple doors so you couldn’t offer worthless sacrifices.
“Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.
Malachi 3:1 (NLT)
The 1st group of people that will come out of this will be Christian Complainers –
“You have said terrible things about me,” says the Lord. “But you say, ‘What do you mean? What have we said against you?’ 14 “You have said, ‘What’s the use of serving God? What have we gained by obeying his commands or by trying to show the Lord of Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins?
Malachi 3:13-14 (TPT)
The 2nd group of people that will come out of this refining period will be Unbelieving Christians –
15 From now on we will call the arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to punish them suffer no harm.’”
Malachi 3:15 (TPT)
The 3rd group of people are Believing Christians Who Feared the Lord
16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said.
Malachi 3:16 (TPT)
