Guest Speaker, Matt Corder (Notes, December 8th)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10 (NIV)

The fear of the Lord through serpent eyes looks like punishment

The fear of the Lord viewed through Kingdom perspective looks like love

To fear God is to love Him so much, we are afraid to hurt Him and be away from Him. We love Him and value His word and presence above all other things. Out of reverence and honor for Him, we choose to love what He loves and hate what He hates.

Obey Him and His Word instantly

Obey Him even if it doesn’t make sense

Obey Him even if it hurts

Obey Him even if they don’t see the benefit

Obey Him to completion

2Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”“Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Genesis 22:1-2

3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey.

Genesis 22:3

12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God.

Genesis 22:12

“Obedience is better than sacrifice.” God knows the motives of our hearts and always sees our choice of action. He knows whether we are relying on Him or trying to do it on our own. He wants us to know and have continued confidence that He is with us, that He is faithful to what every aspect of His Name represents.
