KINGDOM CULTURE: God Still Speaks (Notes 8/30)

“It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy…”

Joel 2:28 (NASB)

God wants to communicate with His family.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me..

John 10:26-28

Paul says we are to earnestly desire the gift of prophecy, which is to speak on God’s behalf to strengthen, encourage, and comfort people.

Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy…

1 Corinthians 14:1-4

Prophecy is not one-way communication.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted.

1 Corinthians 14:29

The Bible is the ultimate, authoritative revelation unlike any other; nothing will be added to it.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

God speaks to us in a variety of ways.

For by wise guidance you will wage war, And in abundance of counselors there is victory.

Proverbs 24:6

God is perfect, but He has chosen to partner with imperfect people to build the Kingdom.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.

1 Corinthians 13: 9-12

As with all spiritual gifts, the gift of prophecy is not given to us fully developed.

“Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.”

1 Timothy 4:14-16

Prophecy should always be delivered with humility and love, never for self-promotion or selfish ambition.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Philippians 2:3-4

There is sometimes a mystery to prophecy and it’s timing.

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Luke 2:19 (NIV)

Prophets and prophecy do not have to look or feel weird to be from God.

But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

1 Corinthians 14:3

Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”

Numbers 11:29

When we realize the Word of the Lord it changes the environment.

“As for Me, says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.”

Isaiah 59:21 (NKJV)

The evidence of the Spirit of God resting upon us as a tribe/family is the Word of the Lord coming from our mouth.
