Awakening the Wonder in our city starts with praying for our city.
Jeremiah 29:7-9 (NIV)
“‘Pray to the LORD for [the city], because if it prospers, you too will prosper.’ Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,’ declares the LORD.”
The Big Points:
- God urged them to pray for their city!
- We’re called to put our lives on the line for our city.
- We love the city of man for the sake of the heart of God.
- Your call as a follower of Christ is to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to your city.
- Think of ways to honor and bless your community servants and leaders.
Matthew 9:37-38 (ESV)
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
- Spiritual leaders do what leadership requires.
- Spiritual leaders value collaboration.
- Spiritual leaders recognize the importance of unity.
1 Timothy 2:1-4
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
